How to Brag on Your Resume Without Sounding Like a Jerk

How to Brag on Your Resume Without Sounding Like a Jerk How to Brag on Your Resume Without Sounding Like a Jerk How to Brag on Your Resume Without Sounding Like a Jerk Brag about your accomplishments in a way that attracts, rather than repels, employers. In a previous article about writing your professional summary, I mentioned that you should avoid using fluffy marketing words to describe your experience and instead, focus on providing proof of your skills. In other words, always aim to show, don't tell on your resume. This rule also applies when you're describing your work history. Use this opportunity to explain how you've applied your skills and knowledge to provide value to your previous employers. To do this, break each job into two sections: a small paragraph that describes your role and responsibilities, and then a list of corresponding bullet points that call attention to your best selling points (i.e. your achievements and major contributions). I recommend dividing each role into these sections because it makes it easier for the reader to quickly scan and digest your experience. Bullet points are a great method for highlighting important pieces of information on the resume, but if you bullet everything under each job title, this technique loses its effectiveness. A reader's eyes will glaze over an endless list of bullet points just as easily as they would had you used dense blocks of text. Role and responsibilities When describing your experience, think about how each role and its responsibilities relate to your current job goal. This is especially important if you'd like to change careers. Ask yourself: How can I quantify my role? Include details such as the number of people you managed, the territories you covered, the size of the budget you oversaw, the number of clients you support, and so forth. If you worked at the same company for several years, consider how your role grew over time regardless of if you received a promotion. If you're having difficulty finding the words to describe each position you've held, take a look at the company's site (or on other job boards) and search for jobs with similar titles. That's a great place to start. In addition, take a look at the job postings you've gathered that represent the type of work you're targeting in your current search. You may be able to use some of the lines from these job listings to describe your previous work. Accomplishments and results When it comes to writing your resume, always remember that bullet points equal bragging points. The bullet points under each job should be used to describe the results you've achieved and the major contributions you've made that benefited the organization. Ask yourself the following questions: Did I identify ways to make operations run better, faster, cheaper, smoother, more profitably, or safer? Did I help reduce costs, avoid major problems, eliminate roadblocks, or increase productivity? Did I meet or exceed any goals that were set for me on a quarterly or annual basis? Did I complete projects ahead of schedule or under budget? Did I receive any awards or special recognition for my performance? Related: How to Track Your Work Accomplishments Throughout the Year If you can answer yes to any of these questions, then detail these accomplishments in the bulleted section of your work experience. If you don't have access to specific numbers to support these accolades, try to think in terms of better, faster, and cheaper. What was the tangible benefit of your work? Where possible, begin each bullet point by highlighting the result of your efforts and then describe the actions you took to achieve such a result. Here are some examples of this RESULT by ACTION format: Reduced turnaround time 23% by streamlining the budgeting process for the organization's five business units. Awarded Rookie of the Year for garnering the highest sales commission among all representatives with less than two years' experience in the field. Generated $1.3 million in new business for the online subscription business by developing an integrated marketing campaign that included online ads, targeted emails, social media initiatives, and TV commercials. The number of bullets you have under each role will vary depending on how long you worked there and how relevant that role is to your current job goals. For instance, if you stayed with a company for 10 or more years, you should have at least five solid bullets detailing your work. If you're new to the workforce, you're not expected to have a bunch of accomplishments to brag about. Instead, use the bullets to demonstrate what types of projects you helped with, the skills you gained, what you were exposed to, and call attention to any major responsibilities you held. Here are a couple examples of what these would look like: Handled over 100 client calls with the account management team, ranging from project check-ins to inbound client inquiries, in a professional and personable manner. Boosted revenue and increased tip value by successfully building strong connections with repeat customers and upselling orders. Take time to gather all the necessary information about your work experience, and you'll be able to craft a compelling document that brags about your contributions without sounding like a jerk. 6 Tips for Working With a Younger Boss

6 Tips for Working With a Younger Boss 6 Tips for Working With a Younger Boss In theory, we all start out in entry-level jobs and then, move our way up. Our path should be steady and sure, which means that our bosses are older than we are, and we are older than our direct reports. Thats how we think it should work, but life rarely goes in straight diagonals. Some people do keep rising, while others take time off for illness, family, or because their boss kicked them to the curb. Sometimes you go sideways. Some people jump six levels at a  time. The result is that sometimes your boss is younger than you. Sometimes, a lot younger. What happens when you are old enough to be your managers mother, or worse, grandmother? Its not always smooth sailing. There are a lot of feelings you need to work out. It isnt a theoretical issue- as Millennials hit the workforce, some will move into management roles where they will supervise people who are considerably older than they are. When youre the older worker, how do you handle working for someone who is not only much younger  but may have a lot less experience?   Tips for Working With a Younger Manager Watch Your Body Language: Your less experienced boss may make suggestions that youre 99 percent sure wont work. Resist the urge to roll your eyes. Its annoying when your kids do it, and its annoying when you do it. You may be right, but you need to keep your body language in check. You can bring up objections (see below), but how you deliver the objections is critical. Watch Your Language: Knock the following phrases out of your work repertoire: When I was your age.We used to do it this way.Ive been doing this since before you were born. After youve been doing this as long as I have, youll see what I mean. And anything similar. You dont want to draw attention to the age differences, and you dont want to act like youre superior because youre older. You may be superior.  Your boss is still the boss. Assume Your Boss is the Right Person for the Job: Even if you dont have more work experience, you have more life experience. That doesnt mean that your Millennial boss isnt the right person for the job of the  boss. She may well have the knowledge and experience that management needed and wanted to hire. She may have management skills that other people dont have. Some people are good at one thing, and some are good at other things. When your boss makes changes, dont resist the change. Dont push back unless you have really solid reasons. (Weve never done it that way before, is not a solid reason.) If you have a solid reason, take it to your boss and present your case. Thats what you would do if your boss were older than you. If she says absolutely not, then support her. Shes the boss, and shell take the fall if it was a stupid idea. Keep It Professional: You have a lot of life experience, as well as professional experience. Your 20-something boss is in the process of going through things like dating, new babies, and general relationship drama that you are long, long past. Resist the urge to help her out with that stuff. She has parents she can go to for adult advice. Additionally, dont let yourself fall into the role of department mother or father. Sometimes this can happen when there are one or two baby boomers in a group of Millennials. Some even start calling their older coworker mom. Its endearing, and its also career suicide for you. Nobody gives the good projects to the mom. Moms are there to bring cookies (dont do it) and give advice (Advice on a project? Good. Advice on they guy shes dating? Bad.) You are all professionals, so please act like it. You Havent Earned any Special Privileges: This pops up in organizations where the older workers are long-term employees of the company. Theyve earned the right to come in late, or get the first pick on vacation time. Maybe first vacation pick is company policy, but your boss gets to determine that if its not. If your boss wants you to have a flexible schedule great! And by all means, negotiate it. Youve earned it if you can point to your stellar work record. You havent earned it by your longevity alone. Dont Try to Be Cool: If youre naturally cool - awesome - but dont try to act like a 25-year-old when youre 45. It comes across as unprofessional and silly. Sure, that may be ageist, and you can threaten to sue, but we all live in the real world in which people are expected to mature as they get older. There are different expectations for different people. As long as it doesnt affect your performance rating or pay, let it go. Remember, age doesnt really matter once you hit adulthood. Dont panic if your new boss is a lot younger than you are. Just do your best at your job, and things will go well.

Relocation Job Search Tips

Relocation Job Search Tips Relocation Job Search Tips Even in 2017, a long-distance  job search  can be tricky. Its often easier to find a job in a new city for a high-level or hard to fill position than it is for an entry level position. Many companies prefer to hire local candidates because expenses to relocate employees are high and the logistics of interviewing long-distance candidates can be complicated. However, it is possible to perform a long-distance job search and land a great job with the help of these tips. Network Networking is one of the best ways to  find a job. Many companies promote referral hiring, your resume has a better chance of being seen by the hiring manager, and you could gain access to job openings that haven’t been posted yet. So hit up your connections in your target area to learn about job opportunities at their companies. You may just be the candidate they’re looking for. Not to mention, as residents of your future city, they can give you tips on where to live, what to do, and what to expect of your community. Mention Your Relocation Be clear in your resume and cover letter that you are planning to relocate, or to include your availability for relocation. If you include an Objective section in your resume, include your relocation information here, as well as at the beginning of your cover letter. If you’re targeting a specific area, say something like, “Looking to move to San Francisco, CA” or if you’re open to relocating anywhere, mention “Open to relocating nationwide.” If you have firm plans to move, include when you will be relocating as well. Try to give employers as much information as possible to increase your chances of success. Include Your Current Address You need to include your current contact information (including your address) in your cover letter and resume when applying for a job so the employer can reach you. While it may be tempting to include a friend or family member’s address or make up an address in the area you’d like to work, you should avoid it. A recruiter may question why your current job (or last job if it is very recent) is so far away or why you’re unable to come in for an interview right away, and you’ll have to awkwardly explain that you don’t actually live at the address you listed. It’s best to be honest and list your current address, but include next to it “Looking to relocate to XYZ city.” Cover Your Relocation Expenses For highly sought-after candidates, a company may offer you a relocation package. However, for candidates who are competing with comparable local candidates, you might have a better chance of landing a job in a different city if you can cover your relocation expenses. Include in your cover letter and resume that you “will be relocating at my own expense” or that you are “willing to cover all relocation expenses.” Do Like the Locals Do If you’re having a hard time finding a job but you’re set on moving to a particular city, you may increase your chances of finding a job by taking a leap of faith and moving before landing a job. Since it’s easier to find a job in the city you’re living in, moving may expedite the job search process. You’ll be more readily available for job interviews, companies don’t have to worry about paying for relocation, and you’ll have better access to local job seeker tools, such as local employment agencies. While a long-distance job search can be tough, it is doable. By working your network in your desired area, including your relocation plans high up in your cover letter and resume, and offering to cover your relocation expenses, you can find a job in the location of your dreams. Do you have other tips for relocation? Have you successfully found a job despite searching long-distance? Share your tips and stories in the comments below!

The Best Fonts to Make Your Resume ATS and Recruiter-Friendly

The Best Fonts to Make Your Resume ATS and Recruiter-Friendly The Best Fonts to Make Your Resume ATS and Recruiter-Friendly It might not seem like a big deal, but did you know something as simple as the font you pick for your resume can have a huge impact on your chances of scoring your dream job? Learn how to pick the best font for resume content, what font size your resume should be, how good typography can get you past applicant tracking system (ATS) robots, and what you can do to make your resume stand out to recruiters. How Does a Font Get You a Job? Your end goal needs to be making sure your resume catches the attention of a real person. The first step of getting your resume in front of a hiring manager is getting it past the ATS robots. These systems might not recognize uncommon fonts and reject your resume immediately, simply because it can’t parse the text for the keywords it’s looking for. Some top ATS convert your resume into a standard format for a recruiter to read. If you have the wrong font, the ATS may convert your resume incorrectly, showing important information as tofu, the term for those blank boxes that replace letters, numbers, and other characters when the font doesn’t render. Studies show us that some recruiters only spend six seconds deciding if a resume is worth pursuing, so tofu or a hard-to-read font can easily result in your resume being rejected without any consideration of your skills or experience. Typography Basics It helps to understand some basics of typography before picking a font and formatting your resume. What we generally call a font is actually a typeface. A typeface refers to a family of fonts. A font is the size and weight of a typeface. That means that Times New Roman is a typeface and 12-point Times New Roman in bold is a font. The distinction doesn’t matter much in the digital age, but it’s helpful to know that you have choices within a typeface. For instance, Roboto, a typeface that Google developed for mobile use, comes in thin, light, normal, medium, bold, and black varieties. You’ve probably seen sans serif and serif in reference to typefaces or fonts. A serif refers to the small lines or flourishes on the ends of some letters, while sans serif means the font doesn’t have those lines. There are other typeface styles beyond serif and sans serif, such as script, which refers to cursive or handwriting-like styles, or slab serif, which involves serifs that are particularly thick and embellished. These and other styles aren’t appropriate for resumes, as they’re often difficult to read at a glance and don’t play well with ATS. The Best Resume Fonts There’s a psychology to fonts that allows you to control some of the perceptions a reader might have of you based on your resume. While we recommend specific typefaces below, you’re generally safe sticking to fonts that are ubiquitous, available on most word processing programs (not just Microsoft Word), and easy to read. Should I Use a Serif Font for My Resume? If you’re applying for highly compliant, regulated, or formal fields, serif is the way to go. Serif fonts are perceived as reliable and traditional. They lend an air of authority. Use this to your advantage if you’re working in finance, law, or science or if you’re applying to companies with a long history and formal structure. Best Serif Fonts for Resumes: Cambria Garamond Georgia Palatino Times New Roman (although some believe it is outdated) Should I Use a Sans Serif Font for My Resume? If you’re working in innovative and newer fields, sans serif is a good fit for your resume. Sans serif fonts are perceived as modern and clean. They imply innovation and simplicity. Sans serif fonts work well for applications to young companies on the cutting edge looking to be disruptive and in creative or emotional fields such as marketing or writing. Best Sans Serif Fonts for Resumes: Arial Calibri Helvetica Tahoma Verdana Best serif and sans serif resume fonts. Resume Font Size Another useful piece of resume formatting to consider is the size of the typeface you choose. The body of your resume, including headers, should generally be 10 to 12 points, no matter what typeface you’re using. Your name at the top of the resume can be a bit larger 16 or 18 points depending on how much space you have to play with. It’s a standard rule of thumb in resume creation to make sure your resume is only one page you can bring a more in-depth resume to your interview and use LinkedIn to provide more detail. That one page is essential to get a recruiter’s attention. A lot of jobseekers try to squeeze in more information by using a small resume font size. Another common mistake is to use font size for emphasis instead of bolding or italicizing. The best trick for a great resume seems easy but is actually really hard to execute: keep it simple. You don’t want to leave out any of your experience, qualifications, or skills, but something has to go. This is why most recruiting and hiring professionals recommend tailoring your resume to the job you’re applying for. Hiring managers, ATS robots, and recruiters are all looking for resumes that fit the role they’re trying to fill, not every job you’ve ever worked. Figure out the best ways to optimize and focus your resume with Jobscan: ? Once you’ve got your resume curated for the specific role you’re applying for, it’ll be much easier to fit your text in at the optimal resume font size. How To Emphasize Info on Your Resume Don’t overuse emphasis on your resume. It’s fine to bold a section header such as Summary or Education and also italicize past roles you’ve held, but if you overuse emphasis, it starts to lose meaning. If everything is emphasized, then nothing is emphasized. Stick to bold and italics for emphasis on your resume. Other methods might not scan or convert well through an ATS or make your resume look busy and crowded, decreasing the chances a recruiter or hiring manager will want to read it. Also avoid underlining, since in the digital era underlines are usually associated with web links. On top of this, some typefaces don’t play well with underlines, meaning lowercase letters like g, j, or q might not scan or convert correctly within an ATS. Other Resume Font and Formatting Dos and Don’ts Don’t use more than two fonts on your resume Be sparing with the use of a secondary font. A good use of two fonts would be a serif typeface (e.g., Garamond) for your name, then a sans serif (e.g., Helvetica) typeface for the body of the resume. Using more than two fonts starts to make your resume look aimless, or even worse, like a ransom note! Don’t try to use line spacing adjustments to get more space This will also make your resume look crowded and be difficult to read by ATS robots and recruiters. You can play with margins, but be careful not to overcrowd the page. Don’t bother with color for a digital resume It just isn’t worth the effort. Certain colors or shades sometimes appear as invisible to an ATS and others can be challenging for hiring managers or recruiters to read. Save graphics, colors, and headshots for your CV or in-depth resume that you take with you to an interview. Do get fresh eyes to look over your resume A good time for this is after you’ve redone your typeface, font, and formatting. A friend or family member looking over your resume can give you feedback about its readability and appearance. They can also help point out any typos or problems you might have missed it’s easy to overlook errors when you’ve been looking at the same document for ages! Beat the ATS Robots, Reach the Humans Simple details like typeface, font size, and where to bold your resume might initially seem like they aren’t worth focusing on. But today ATS robots scan through hundreds of resumes, recruiters only spend seconds on a flood of applications, and hiring managers need to choose between highly competitive candidates. Correct typography and formatting put you a step above other candidates and give you a much better chance to get your resume past an ATS and into the hands of a real person. Why not take any advantage you can get?

2 traits that help most successful people usually spell disaster for the rest

2 traits that help most successful people usually spell disaster for the rest 2 traits that help most successful people usually spell disaster for the rest Since I heard Daniel Kahneman speak at the World Business Forum this year, I haven’t stopped thinking about one particular point he raised.Kahneman is a Nobel Prize-winning psychologist and the author of the 2011 bestseller “Thinking, Fast and Slow,” in which he outlined a series of cognitive biases that affect our everyday decisions. At WBF, Kahneman spoke about a “paradox” of success: You probably can’t be wildly successful unless you’re optimistic and overconfident about your chances. But generally speaking, optimism (the belief that you’re less likely than others to experience bad events and more likely to experience positive events) and overconfidence (an inflated sense of accuracy or ability in a specific area) are career saboteurs. It’s the difference between, say, the Elon Musks and Jeff Bezoses of the world and the rest of us.“To be optimistic on average - it’s not favorable,” Kahneman said. But “extreme success is impossible without optimism.”Kahn eman pointed to a 2007 paper published in the Journal of Behavioral Decision Making.Researchers looked at a group of inventors in Canada and found that above-average optimists who were advised not to pursue their project ended up spending 166% more money than below-average optimists did when they received the same advice. (The researchers found that overconfidence didn’t have an effect on the inventors’ spending behavior, but that may have been because they didn’t specifically measure the inventors’ confidence in their abilities.)Based on their findings, the researchers surmise that “a high level of optimism may act to keep inventors going in the face of adversity” - which is either a laudable or completely impractical behavior depending on your perspective. As Kahneman described it, the average inventor would have been better off financially heeding the negative advice and taking a more traditional job; but the most successful inventors would not have.In some circumstan ces, overconfidence can be beneficialA more recent study provides some preliminary evidence that, at least among entrepreneurs, optimism can backfire. The study, which was published in the journal European Economic Review, found that above-average optimists who are self-employed earn 30% less than below-average optimists who are self-employed. Interestingly, however, the study also found that optimists who work for companies earn more than their more pessimistic peers.Still, there are some circumstances in which overconfidence in particular can work to your benefit. An article in the Harvard Business Review describes a study that found, at firms led by overconfident CEOs, there tends to be lower employee turnover and employees allocate a greater share of the assets in their retirement benefit plans to company stock. The authors write in The Harvard Business Review, “At least in the corporate world, there may be a bright side to overconfidence: it can increase the commitment of other people to your venture.”As for Kahneman, he called optimism the “engine of capitalism.” He said, “When you have lots of people trying things against the odds, it’s not very good for most of them. Most of them will fail. But it’s very good for society at large to have a lot of people competing and a few of them succeed.”This article first appeared on Business Insider.

New Grads Should You Include Your GPA in Your Resume

New Grads Should You Include Your GPA in Your Resume New Grads Should You Include Your GPA in Your Resume If you’re a recent entry to the professional, post-college job-seeker market, you probably are still operating on those tried and true resume strategies you used in and after high school.  List out a few personality strengths, throw in a couple of hobbies and make sure you espouse on your class rank or graduation day GPA for good measure.  Your grades, after all, were an excellent measure of schoolroom success, so why shouldn’t they provide the same support after your college days have come and gone? While that strategy may have worked when applying for that position waiting tables at your local diner, when it comes to landing a career-making position things can get a bit trickier.  As it turns out, your post-college employer may or may not care about that A+ you scored in Psych for Business Majors as much as your other, independently reported, characteristics.  This doesn’t mean, however, that you should throw the baby out with the bathwater and excise your GPA from your professional resume, altogether.  Here we break down the plusses, minuses, whens and hows as pertains to including your GPA in your resume as a recent college grad. What’s a GPA Afterall Before we get into when to include such fact and figures we first need to discuss just what exactly goes into determining this mythical acronym.  A GPA, or grade point average, is calculated by assigning a numerical value to the letter grade you receive from each high school or college course.  These values are added up together, divided by the number of courses and poof, a GPA is calculated. GPA’s tend to be universally accepted measures of scholarly success given the ease of understanding of traditional letter grades.  In a few cases, however, GPA’s can be a bit of a trickier assessments of your academic prowess.  In recent years, some schools have moved away from letter grades, transitioning instead towards evaluations of course work.  If you attended a foreign school, your grades may also not translate well to a GPA.  GPA scales are also set by the individual school which means that your grade may be a great comparison of performance against other graduates of your alma mater but may be based on an entirely other set of criteria than candidates from other schools. Distance from your College Years Now that you understand the plusses and minuses of the GPA scale, it’s time to decide whether to include the numeric in your resume.  One of the critical factors for helping the decision along may well be the length of time since graduation.  Recent grads with attractive, high-ranking GPA’s may find that potential employers are attracted by their stellar college performance.  The further you get from those course-taking, frat-pledging, cap-wearing years, however, the less relevant this number may be to a hiring manager reviewing your CV.  As a general rule of thumb, five to seven years post college take a good, hard look at your resume and reassess whether the addition of your GPA remains a relevant judge of your skillset. Strengths and Experience If you have the unfortunate circumstance to be graced with a lower GPA, excluding this number from your resume may be entirely acceptable if there’s plenty of other info included to flesh out your skillset.  A large amount of specialized experience, certifications or a proven ability and reputation in your field will often be much more relevant to a recruiter or hiring manager than the grade you earned while obtaining a liberal arts degree ten years prior.  The absence of a GPA in your degree field if you’re brand new on the job market may raise an eyebrow, but load up that doc with plenty of other reasons the employer should consider your candidacy and chances are the omission won’t get even a second look. The GPA Bottom Line When it comes to including your GPA on your resume as a recent grad, the bottom line is all about balance.  Put together a draft of your resume and perform a critical analysis of how much substance is actually included when alls said and done.  The GPA is simply one factor in the hiring equation.  If you have advanced certifications, pre-college skills or other extenuating or attractive features, leaving off a less than amazing GPA won’t hurt your chances with most employers.  If your GPA is stellar, feel free to include it until you’ve put together a few years on the job market.  Continue to evaluate the overall picture your resume paints, GPA included or not, for the best ongoing prospects for landing a job in the field of your dreams.

3 Ways Advertising Attracts Straight Men

3 Ways Advertising Attracts Straight Men 3 Ways Advertising Attracts Straight Men Advertising aimed squarely at the male target audience (specifically heterosexual males) seems to fall into three common buckets. There are obviously more ways to entice men than the three big categories listed here, but most fit into them. If youre a woman reading this, some may apply to you, too. After all, you also buy products for men. But advertisements that are aimed at you, for you, tend to fall into different categories. The following three strategies show the ways straight men are patronized by advertisers every day of the year. And sadly, these methods work. Again and again and again. After youve read the article, take the challenge of watching ads aimed at men. How many of them fall into one of these categories...or several? You can often find all three in ads for beer, trucks, and razor blades.   Men Like Very Masculine Manly Things You only have to look at ads for beer, razors, cars, watches and even shower gel to see that. You cant sell a man a pink poofy plastic ball to use in the shower. A mans has to be black and red and blue and be accompanied by a powerful rock anthem and a ton of hot chicks swooning over his studly shower tool. Men dont buy razor blades that glide effortlessly. Well, they do. But they make the sound of an Indy car as the rush across our cheeks. And therell be a womans hand massaging our smooth chin, for some reason. Cars are enormous phallic symbols. Shower gel is related to planting your face headfirst in the ice and snow of Mount Everest, followed by splashing a torrent of near-freezing water over our faces in a move that would make Bear Grylls cry for his mum. Men are men and absolutely love the cliché. And as long as they love being men, advertisers will love putting it on the end of a hook and reeling them in.   Men Are Crass, Puerile, Arrogant, Slobbish, Insensitive Jackasses Oh, they really are horrendous. And they love it. A classic ad for British product, Super Noodles, shows guys being guys. In one ad, two men lick the plates clean then put them back in the cupboard to use again next time. In another, the guys are throwing noodles at a window and commenting on the race as they slide down. They may as well be six years old. Women, this strategy would probably not work on you (although there has been a recent trend showing the more crass side of womens behavior, which the movie Bridesmaids played up to beautifully). But men like to celebrate their immaturity. So what if we havent grown up yet? Who cares if we dont cry at movies, and fart during wedding ceremonies? Were the guys, the lads, the good ol boys who know how to have a good time and dont give a crap who we offend. And while men love to celebrate this fact, theyll keep buying products that target them in this way. From beer and pizza to deodorant and shampoo, they dont mind buying products that tell them to be childish and proud of it.   Most Men Like Women Oh my lord, how men like women. Or a certain type of woman anyway, judging by the ads aimed at men by advertisers and marketers around the globe. For some reason, draping a leggy blonde or brunette over a car makes the appeal of that vehicle go up tenfold. Maybe men think theyll score with a Playboy bunny if they buy the car?   Sex sells. When it comes to beer, men are bombarded with images of scantily-clad models holding cans of ice-cold lager, laughing at their jokes, finding them irresistible and also incredibly handsome. But its men who drink the beer, so why do the women have the beer goggles on? And then there are those ads that portray women who are tens, chasing nerdy guys and average Joes down the high street because they sprayed something slightly nice smelling under their smelly pits that morning. Yes, that happens. But for some reason, men look. And they buy. And they buy again.
